Hemorrhoidal/Rectal Surgery

We all have hemorrhoids (to a certain degree.) Signs or symptoms of hemorrhoids are bleeding, itching, pain and soiling of undergarments in the rectal area. They can be visible and/or palpable and are generally caused by anything that increases pressure on the abdomen. Among these are lifting heavy things, resistance exercises that focus on the abdominal muscle, chronic constipation, pregnancy and consistent exposure to high g-forces.

In instances where more severe conditions are present, Northeast Surgical Group, P.C. offers a variety of surgical treatments for your consideration. We would be pleased to have the opportunity to provide you with a consultation on these procedures.

● Infra Red Coagulation is limited only to patients with internal hemorrhoids, can be done in our offices, yields good results with very minimal post op pain, no recovery time needed and a return to normal activities within the hour

● Harmonic Scalpel Hemorrhoidectomy treats venous complexes with a scalpel that oscillates at 20,000 cycles per second, exhibits a low rate of recurrence, has a proven track record of success, covered by most insurances, but it is a painful procedure generally with a 6 to 8 weeks recovery, and two surgeries may be necessary if the hemorrhoids are 360 degrees around the rectum

● Stapled Hemorrhoidectomy is well suited for the prolapsed rectum, with recovery within 3 to 4 weeks and an additional post op discomfort period lasting another 2 to 3 weeks. This procedure is well covered by most insurances. There is, however, a moderate rate of occurrence and a limited effectiveness with external hemorrhoids.

● Transanal Hemorrhoidal Dearterialization (THD) is new technology that incorporates the use of a Doppler probe to identify the feeder arteries and plicates (multiply folds) the venous plexuses in a pleat-like configuration for added strength. THD offers a quick return to normal activities in about 7 to 10 days, demonstrates a low rate of recurrence, and leaves no open post op wounds. THD identifies both offending arteries and veins and treats all hemorrhoids in 360 degrees in one surgery. Please be aware that health insurance may not cover this procedure because of its newness and thoroughly check with your individual insurer before scheduling any surgery.
